Totem Pole, a 30 foot 31 passenger vessel, was designed to operate west of the dam at Waltham, MA and run west in the Charles River. Along with the bow door for easy of loading, she has a hydraulically operated aluminum canopy which reduces air draft to 5 feet. She has an easily driven displacement type hull designed by Parker Marean III. Initially she had twin 15 HP Honda outboards, later replaced by a single 25 HP and a 5 HP. The 5 HP was replaced with a 30 HP Honda, essentially the same as the 25 HP but with an upgraded HP rating. She has been inspected and is certifiable by the USCG for 31 passengers which certification can go into effect as soon as she is in waters under USCG jurisdiction. The boat is useful not only for carry passengers but for carrying cargo which it has done often.
