This boat is offered either with a split sheer with or without the pipe rail on the after portion as shown in the drawing below. (In the 7.4 m group which follows, a horseshoe crab boat with a split sheer is shown).The outboard engine is enclosed in a half well. An AYBC outboard well is optional or an outboard bracket. Photos shows the Lake Yonah fire/rescue boat without the split sheer, a 7.4 m split sheer is pictured as well. The split sheer permits low freeboard aft which is desired for some applications, e.g. horse shoe crab harvesting. By splitting the sheer line, a high stem is possible without an exaggerated sheer line. The owner wanted a high stem going into a head sea. Esthetics are involved as well. Many people like the looks of the split sheer.
Several other 22 foot boats are quite similar to the one in the drawing. With one exception, all of these 22 footers are outboard powered, the exception being a big water duck boat built in 2007 which has a V-6 gas engine and a Hamilton jet.
