| Winninghoff Big Water Duck Boats
|
|
|
| The third BWDB (Big Water Duck Boat) left our shop
today, December 20th, on its way to northern NY State in time to catch
the last of the duck season. She’s owned by Bill Balestra, an
avid duck hunter and winter fisherman. |
 |
Balestra’s boat is a stretched 6.8m (22
footer) stretched with a combination swim platform and hull extension
to 24 x 8. It is powered by a Honda 150 HP – 4 cycle outboard
which gives her great response with cruising speed of about 36 knots,
a tad over 40 mph with a light load. The hull is a modified vee with
about 45 degrees deadrise at the stem and about 15 degrees at the
transom. She has a side mounted console, a dog door in the port side. |
|
|
The hull has a 0.25 inch thick bottom (5083 H32)
and has 0.190 5086 H32 topsides, and deck. Fuel is in a built-in
40 gallon tank. There is a 35 gallon built-in live well aft of the
fuel tank.
We are quite happy with this boat, and would
certainly recommend it or variations thereof. She’s a lively
performer which would still perform well with a smaller engine.

The previous two BWDB boats were also customized
to meet the desires of their owners. The first boat, a 22 ft. x 8
ft. hull built several years ago, had a warped hull with about 50
degrees deadrise forward and about 5 degrees at the transom thus
providing as shallow as possible hull draft. |
|
| This boat, which was powered with a 75 HP Evinrude,
was shown on an older version of our web site. |
 |
|
 |
The second BWDB was quite similar to the Lake
Yonah Fire/Rescue boat (see first boat under modified vee section
of web site) with the difference that it was powered by a V-6 gas
engine turning a Hamilton jet, thus providing the extreme shallow
draft desired by these South Carolina duck hunters. |
